Day 37 - Farewell Friends

16/05/11

Today is our last day with our new friends Andrew and Dirk. It has been wonderful having them along for part of our journey. We have had many laughs and good times.

We spent the morning cleaning up and helping the boys pack up their gear.

Some lunch then into town to catch The Ghan arriving in town - it has a 4 hour stop to offload passengers and restock before departing for Darwin later.

But first off to have a look at the School of the Air - a nice setup for the outback kids - learnt about the school and saw some lessons underway. They now use video technology to make it easier and quicker for all.  Some great work done by the kids as well as the guest wall (started by Rolf Harris of course).  They've had a lot of visitors including rolyty - even Charles and Di in happier days (they were'nt allowed to sign the wall cause it would have bcome heritage listed).

Then into town for some shopping before taking the boys to the Railway Station and check them in to The Ghan. They had to repack some overweight bags then we waved them off on their journey to Darwin.

We will miss them a lot and hope to have Dirk visit us at home after we get back. We will keep up email contact with them along the way.
