Day 27 - Goodbye Coober Pedy

06/05/11

Packed up again and on the road north again.  First stop a place called The Breakaways 40km north of Coober Pedy.  A series of hills which provide a great view of the surrounding countryside. Opal mines remain a feature of the landscape right up to here.  To the south-east is an area called the Moon Plains however to live up to their name one has to imagine them in their usual barren state instead of covered in green as they are now.

Some of the locals - this train consists of 16 hairy centipedes - we saw another with 34.

Onward and upward - next stop Cadney Roadhouse where the Army boys have some equipment on the move.

Finally we've made it to the Territory!  Still not getting much warmer - nights still very chilly. Next town just over the border is Kulgera - our camp for the night.  Caught up with the nomads we were with at Coober Pedy.

Howard's birthday today so we all went to have a meal at the Kulgera Pub next door (billed as the first and the last pub in the Territory) and a fun night had by all.
