Day 34 - Alice Bound

13/05/11

Left Kings Canyon this morning and on the road north. First stop Kathleen Springs 40km out of Kings Canyon - a lovely spot which early settlers used to gather stock due to permanent water source and natural gorge.  Met a great character called Remo and his wife from Babinda in Nth Qld. He is now retired but has owned fishing trawlers and sugar cane farms. He had an opinion on lots of things but the funniest thing he mentioned was referring to Bob Brown as donut Bob.

Then 300km up the road we stopped at rest area at Finke River.  Maybe last night caught up - the boys had a very chilly night, not a lot of sleep due to teh cold and dingos which prowl around the camp at night.

Backtacked 5km from our campsite to the Henbury Meteor Craters - Judy decided to have a go at driving the Landcruiser for the first time - she did well on the gravel road.  There are a series of 4 craters which tend to gather whatever water comes in so quite a bit of vegetation in them.  The meteor pieces which made them were only the size of tennis balls but made quite an impact.

Back to the campsite to set up again. There were many caravans there and we had soup for dinner and sat at the fire with 8 grey nomads - much talking and reminiscing.
