Day 22 - William Creek - The Middle of Nowhere

01/05/11

Up early to watch the sunrise.  Despite lots of cloud and a few spits of rain, it is a spectacular sight – pictures don’t do it justice.

Left this magnificent place and on the road to the north again.  Stopped off at several of the sidings which existed for the old Ghan railway.  Not sure who’s really doing the driving here.  At one of the creek crossings there were sea gulls who have been playing at Lake Eyre.

Someone having fun with the DIP signs – this made us think of our neighbours James and Pip back home.

This typical of the sidings we see along the way – all deserted.

The next place is a series of permanent springs where they bubble out of the ground – this one is called “The Bubbler”.

Next along is Coward Springs where we could have a quick dip.

Next stop Beresford Siding – a nice protected area with a dam as described to us by my cousins Janice and Peter – sorry guys but we didn’t stay there the night.

Then just up the road a place called Strangways Springs which included another series of springs along with the old Telegraph Repeater station – lot’s of ruins of buildings yet again.

Finally to our destination for tonight William Creek – a cool place where just about everyone has visited it seems

Among the miriad of items to read there is a great description of the game of cricket which was a real hoot.

Found a spot in the caravan park and settled for the night.
