Day 85 - Berry Springs

03/07/11

Today we packed up to finally leave the Oasis Caravan Park in Darwin after staying a week longer than we first planned, but that's the way it goes.

On the road south of Darwin - now getting used to seeing the steel telegraph poles everywhere.  I imagine wood wouldn't last long with the termites everywhere as well as rotting from the wet/dry cycle.

We arrived at Berry Springs (50km down the road) and set up at our new temporary home - Tumbling Waters Caravan Park.  After setting up and meeting our neighbours we went down to Berry Springs and spent a couple of hours wallowing around in the luke warm water - really refreshing.  Sean had fun trying to reach the bottom - about 25ft in the middle.

Sunday afternoon and lots of people around picnicking and enjoying the water.  The area gets closed over the wet season because the conditions become dangerous and the extra water allows crocs to come into the system.  After the wet they do surveys for crocs, catch and remove them before opening the site - we hoped they'd searched well.

After we were suitably waterlogged - back to the van then of course into the pool there for another hour.  We then spent some time socialising with our neighbours - Kelvin and Julie (on the road permanently), Marcel and Dot (also full time on the road) and Jeff and Kerrie (on a 5year holiday in their 28ft camper).  We had a great chat and had to break to go to bed at 10.30pm after another camper conveyed his desire for peace and quiet.
