Day 67 - Darwin at Last

15/06/11
Packed up at Adelaide River.  Termite mounds abound here as well - this one at the edge of the showgrounds has grown to consume the fence.

A stop along the way for the Menton Dam - originally built in 1942 as a water source for Darwin.  No longer used however remains an emergency supply (last used in the wake of Tracey in 1975).

Then about 20km out of Darwin we see this great pall of smoke to the west.  Never found out exactly what it was (a couple of people suggesting burning off) but it was spectacular.

Well its only taken 9 weeks and 10,500km to get her but we've made it to the top of the top end.    After setting up at Hidden Valley Holiday Park, we headed off to have a look around the foreshore and ended up at East Point.

Cousin Leonie had told us that sunsets at Darwin were special. Wow - it was great.

Then off to the Darwin Trailer Boat Club for a V8 Event function where I was abel to pick up my credentials etc for the weekend.  We had dinner there then settled to watch the State of Origin.  A shame about the result but sets up a beauty for the next one.

After the game back to the van only to find a visitor in the toilet.

Jude took the dog for one last walk before bed and ran into my first wife from Toowoomba.  An amazing co-incidence - she works for the company that owns a series of parks and just happened to be at this one.
