Up this morning and first off went to check out Elsey National Park just down the road from the camp grounds. Several areas to stop off - all along the Roper River. There is one camping area which we would have tried out if not for doggie. The riverfront adjacent to the camping area is lovely with canoes and swimming pontoons for use (though today was rather blowy).
There are a few walks most of which follow along the riverbank.
One interesting spot was the old Mataranka Sheep Dip. Built in 1913 after grand plans to run sheep on this country, they were never used for sheep at all after the experiment failed within a few years. The dip was then modified a couple of times to cater for cattle and horses but is no longer used.
Next back to our campground and had a look at the replica of the old homestead - these guys really did live hard.
Then off for a dip in the thermal pools - water temp 32C and air temp 30C - easy to relax and soak away aches and pains.
