Sean and I began the day with a swim at Cable Beach - we've forgotten how much we enjoy this and we'll be taking more time to do it back home. It was just a medium 9m tide today so in the 1.5hrs we were there the incoming tide came up the beach about 20m. A kindly man kept moving our towels up the beach for us as we were out swimming.
After a couple of hours chilling out at home we went down to Gantheaume Point at the southern end of Cable Beach. This is one of several sites around the area where there are dinosaur footprints in the rocks. There is a plaster cast of some prints near the top of the cliff area - we were not able to see the real ones cause the tide has to be very low. Also from here there are some great views especially from the lighthouse keepers house which sits on what must be some of the most prime real estate around with beautiful ocean views on 3 sides.
Later in the afternoon we met our friends Dennis and Nola with dog Bonnie down on Cable Beach just before sunset so that we could spend time to appreciate one of the famed sunsets. What a great place where you're able to drive onto the beach and have all the room you want to set up chairs and nibbles and appreciate this spectacle. The tide was close to low so there's about 150m wide beach available to us. The dogs had a great time getting wet and dirty while we sat back and watched the 3 different groups of camels make their way up the beach.
Sean had fun drawing pictures in the sand and had quite a gallery by the time we left.
Then just sitting back to enjoy natures display in all its glory while the camels came back on the return leg. The reflections on the wet sand make for some amazing effects which last well after sunset.
