Left Quorn this morning headed for our Easter stay at Rawnsley Park Station right next to Flinders Ranges National Park. We were disappointed that were not able to attend a church service on Good Friday however plan to make it on Sunday.
First stop on the trip out of town is a place that doesn’t function any more called Kanyaka Homestead. A fascinating place which thrived as a full working sheep station from early 1880s through till 1940s. Much of the buildings remain cause they’re all built from local stone however all the timber has rotted away.
First a look at the waterhole – still current permanent source of water; the reason for the settlement in the first place – even doggie has a tentative look.
It's a sprawling place including the main homestead, overseers house, stables, woolshed and several other smaller huts and stores – must have been quite a sight in its heyday
The woolshed is quite large and would have handled many hundreds of sheep at a time.
The homestead itself had 4 bedrooms, 2 kitchens etc as well as the essential outside.
Stopped at some other ruins along the way then arrived at Rawnsley Park Station – a great set up with a caravan park placed among a fully working sheep station. Set up and had a fire which was nice.
