Day 12 - Quorn

21/04/11

Today we are headed for Quorn - about 100km short of our destination for Good Friday which is Rawnsley Park Station near Wilpena Pound which was our original destination.  We were able to book 3 nights at this spot for Friday Saturday and Sunday nights even though they were booked out for Easter - turned out they had a cancellation just as Jude rang up to enquire.  First stop on the way is Murray Town - old and still looking old however with a good camp site where we would have stayed last night had we known (wasn't is our Camps 5 book which is the caravaners source of all). Camp ground includes this toilet made from a water tank.

Next town is Melrose at the foot of the Flinders Range.  Backdrop to Mount Remarkable (not much of a mountain really but still impressive).  The town boasts a brewery which began as a flour mill in 1880s then swapped to brewery which in turn closed down in 1903s.

Next Sean and I took a walk up the trail towards Mount Remarkable

Then checked out some of the local accommodation - a novel way to spend the night.

Next stop a small dot on the map called Wilmington which has apart from the pub 4 churches and a toy museum and a puppet museum.  Jude and Sean enjoyed the toy museum including some interesting Scouting memorabilia.

Once again a flour mill circa 1880s (no longer standing) and a Butter Factory same era still standing but now a private residence

Finally arrived at Quorn.  We were planing to free camp for the night tonight (Thurs)but ended up getting a powered site in the town at Quorn (rang the caravan park and they were fully booked but had a cancellation as we spoke with them again?).  This town famous for the Pichi Pichi railway - the precursor to the modern Ghan. Also several churches - none of which are holding a service on Good Friday (apparently clergy are shared among churches in the area and none for Quorn) - we will ensure that we get to church on Easter Sunday.
